Seriously, why are we still arguing about this when the Golden Girls settled the issue twenty-five years ago? (via omgblog.com)

Ok. Stop it. All of you. Stop remaking movies. Stop remaking good foreign films to suit lame American audiences who refuse to read subtitles. Stop remaking classic American films because the youth doesn’t understand why there is no color or nudity.
Now, the picture above creates a new issue. DO NOT REMAKE A THREE YEAR OLD FILM, THAT IS ALREADY IN ENGLISH. Sure, it was technically a British film; and yeah, it was played mostly at art house theaters and didn’t make money. But you know what? Sometimes the best films out there aren’t seen, or don’t make money. They are the ones I still try to call art versus just being a product.
Death at a Funeral (2007) was art. Death At a Funeral (2010) will be a shitty, knock-off product.

OOF
One original cast member. Can you spot him?
I’m biting my lip. But seriously… crikey, I can’t bear to think of the outcome. A remake? Of an already perfectly funny and brilliantly cast brit flick?
UGH! Miss.
Pardon? Isn’t that a naked James Marsden? Stay this madness.
The world’s first power plant based on osmotic power — a small prototype plant — recently opened in Norway. The plant generates electricity through osmotic pressure: when salt water and fresh water come together, like when a river meets the sea, there’s a difference in water potential. The fresh water and salt water are brought into distinct chambers, separated by a membrane that lets only water molecules through. The salt in the sea water draws fresh water through the membrane, building a pressure (corresponding to a water column of 120 m), which can then be harnessed to generate energy. The challenge in making this cost-effective lies in making the membrane efficient enough. Once it is, we’ll have a new, sustainable energy source — the only waste product is salt water. The total potential is estimated to be around 10 percent of the world’s current electricity consumption. More (pdf).
“Some Days”
Sung by Audra McDonald; Original Poem by James Baldwin
Some days worry
some days glad
some days
more than make you mad.
Some days,
some days, more than shine:
when you see what’s coming
on down the line!
Some days you say,
oh, not me never - !
Some days you say
bless God forever.
Some days, you say,
curse God, and die
and the day comes when you wrestle
with that lie.
Some days tussle
then some days groan
and some days
don’t even leave a bone.
Some days you hassle
all alone.
I don’t know, sister,
what I’m saying,
nor do no man,
if he don’t be praying.
I know that love is the only answer
and the tight-rope lover
the only dancer.
When the lover come off the rope today,
the net which holds him is how we pray,
and not to God’s unknown,
but to each other - :
the falling mortal is our brother!
Some days leave
some days grieve
some days you almost don’t believe.
Some days believe you,
some days don’t,
some days believe you
and you won’t.
Some days worry
some days mad
some days more than make you glad.
Some days, some days,
more than shine,
witnesses,
coming on down the line!Auto Audra reblog.
I love love love her.
The Decemberists - Here Come the Waves: The Hazards of Love Visualized is out on iTunes today.
This looks interesting and I like The Decemberists. I may even download iTunes for this…
I don’t think we are a delicate country. And I don’t think we’re a fragile country. I think that we’re an incredibly tenacious [one]. The whole fabric of this country was born of people who came from a place they didn’t want to be to a place they wanted to be, to do whatever they had to do to make that. And that ethos still lives in this country.
The idea that trying Khalid Sheik Mohammed in New York will destroy us, or trying to bring universal health care to people will destroy us, or trying to solve the problem of global warming will destroy us is trumped up fear that’s being used as a wedge to flatter people into voting for them. And it is absolutely not a part of our national character. The people who continually tell me how much they love this country and I don’t… also say how little this country can accomplish to overcome the problems that all countries face.
